The Difference Between Hindustani and Carnatic Music


Hindustani Classical Music is originated in the Verdic peroid, it is a tradition on that has been evolving from the 12th century AD, in what is now Northern India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, and also Nepal and Afghanistan. And Carnatic Classical Music is a system of musci commonly associated with the Southern part of the Indian subcontinent; Andhra Pradesh, karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Hindustani and Carnatic are both monophonic, and employ a drone with the help of two notes against the melody. Both use definite scales to define a raga but the carnatic style employs Shrutis. Carnatic Ragas differ from Hindustani Ragas. The names of ragas are also different names; Hamsadhwani, Charukeshi and Kalavati (Carnatic Ragas). Carnatic Music does not follow to Time or Samay concepts and instead of Thaats, Carnatic music follows the Melakarta concept. Hindustani music tends to be more heavily influenced by Persian music than Carnatic Music. Carnatic Music emphasizes aq vocalist more than Hindustani music.
